About B.Pharm

Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) is a four-year undergraduate program in which students study the methods and process of preparing drugs and how does the dispensing of medicine and drugs take place. Anyone who aspires to be a pharmacist today, it is mandatory for them to undertake this course so that they have thorough and in-depth knowledge of the science of the medicine.

It is a four-year-long course and is mainly divided into 6-8 semesters, depending upon the coursework and practical sessions. B.Pharm imparts useful knowledge about biochemical science and healthcare business. Students during their coursework have to perform various practicals and experiment.

The regulatory body for the program is Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), which is responsible for laying down all norms and regulations for the B.Pharm course. The course enables candidates to practice the profession of a Pharmacist after graduation. B.Pharmacy degree has a lot of scope and is going to flourish more in the coming years as there is a great demand for healthcare professionals who can prepare drugs to battle a number of diseases and deficiencies.

B.Pharm Course Eligibility:


Bachelor of Pharmacy [B.Pharm] mandates a candidate to have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Maths [PCM] or Physics, Chemistry, Biology [PCB]. It is also necessary to have passed with at least 50% aggregate marks in the pre-university/10+2, with biology/mathematics as one of the subjects or should have completed a Diploma in Pharmacy [D.Pharma].

There is an option of pursuing direct second-year Bachelor of Pharmacy (lateral entry). The criteria for gaining admission is to secure 50% aggregate marks in the first two years of D. Pharmacy Examination with a pass in HSC or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany & Zoology) or Mathematics. The cut-off for different courses differs according to the institute in question. Some states make it necessary to appear for a pharmacy entrance examination to render the aspirant eligible for the course.

B.Pharma Course Fee in India:

The average B.Pharm course fee ranges from INR 40,000 to 1 lakh per annum. Which may differ according to universities/colleges standards. Entrance exam which the candidate take to get admission will also be a factor for deviation in fees.


B.Pharma Salary in India:

The salary package for B.Pharm is ranging from INR 2 to 5 lakhs per annum. Which variate according to one's experience in the particular healthcare sector. 

Career Options and Job Prospects

After B.Pharm degree, students are offered various employment opportunities in the pharmacy sector. They can open their own pharmacy by registering themselves under State Pharmacy Council.

Students can find equal jobs in both public and private sectors such as Technical Pharmacy, Clinical Pharmacy, Medical Dispensing Store, Health Centres, Food & Drug Administration among others. The average salary of a fresher is Rs. Rs. 2 lakh to Rs. 3 lakh. The popular job types for a B.Pharm. graduate are:
